TIE Magic the Gathering Investing Portfolio Report - August 2026 (The first post of many...)
You're going to want to read this.
Welcome to a monthly series where I document the performance of my sealed Magic the Gathering investment portfolio.
This is the first post in a new series that is roughly identical to my Pokémon series where I show you which sealed boxes I own and how much money they’ve made me:
I have been buying sealed Magic the Gathering Collector Booster Boxes for over five years now for investment purposes.
I even have receipts:
These are the first three official collector boxes that Wizards of the Coast brought to market and they are what originally drew my interest.
I also wrote about them in this post from earlier in the year:
Collector boxes and MTG in general have always underperformed vs. sealed Pokémon, well... until 2026 that is.
For one reason or another, MTG has outperformed Pokémon this year.
So much so that my MTG portfolio is only a couple percentage points away from overtaking my Pokémon portfolio.
This is likely because I kept consistently buying over the years, whereas with Pokémon I was stubborn and didn’t buy when boxes released at well above MSRP.
Not only has MTG outperformed, but I’ve noticed some new market dynamics outside of collector boxes and I plan to take advantage of them.
In fact, I’ve already made most of my moves with the intent of profiting from them around Christmas.
In this post I’ll share what my portfolio looks like (that I’ve built over the last 5 years) and what short-term plays I am making now.
Here is what my Magic the Gathering Collector Booster Box portfolio looks like:
